Philip Morris USA is the largest tobacco company in the United States. It is owned by Altria.1
It has almost 50% of the US cigarette market.2 Its brands include Marlboro, Parliament, Virginia Slims, and L&M.23 It also manufactures cigarette papers and filter accessories.3
Since 2008, Philip Morris USA has been a separate company to Philip Morris International.
In 2007, Altria announced that it was going to separate the Philip Morris US and international operations. According to Associated Press, the move would “clear the international tobacco business from the legal and regulatory constraints facing its domestic counterpart, Philip Morris USA”.45 The spin-off was completed in 2008.6
In 2019, Philip Morris USA began marketing PMI’s heated tobacco product IQOS under licence.6

The current President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Philip Morris USA is Jon Moore.7 He first joined the company in 2003 and, after spending a year as Vice President for Heated Tobacco Products, he became President and CEO in September 2019.89
Heather Newman held the post from 2018, then became Senior Vice President Corporate Strategy at Altria.1011
Prior to this K.C. Crosthwaite was President and CEO.12 In 2018, Crosthwaite joined Altria as Chief Growth Officer, and in 2019 became Chairman and CEO at JUUL Labs.1314
Crosthwaite replaced Clifford B. Fleet who had held the role since 2013.15
