William “Billy” F. Gifford was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Altria Group in April 2020, replacing Howard Willard.1 He previously held the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) since March 2015, and was appointed Vice Chairman of Altria’s Board in May 2018.23 Salvatore Moncuso, Vice President of Finance and Procurement, replaced Gifford as CFO upon Gifford’s promotion to CEO.1

Long-Standing Career with Tobacco Industry

Gifford joined Philip Morris USA (PM USA) (a subsidiary of Altria) in 1994 as an accountant and has since held several senior positions, including:4

  • Senior Vice President, Strategy & Business Development at Altria (2013 – 2015)
  • President and Chief Executive Officer of PM USA (2010 – 2013)
